Jakarta, 5 May 2025

In order to improve cooperation and increase understanding of anti-doping regulations, IADO on May 5th, 2025 received the Chairman of PERSAMBI (Indonesian Sambo Federation) Mr. Krisna Bayu, accompanied by other members of the PERSAMBI Management. The meeting was very important, not only because PERSAMBI is one of the members of the Indonesian NOC that has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IADO on Doping Control on October 9th, 2023 (a total of around 69 sports organizations in Indonesia including KONI / National Sports Committee of Indonesia, NPC of Indonesia, NOC of Indonesia and the Indonesian Olympian Association having signed the Memorandum of Understanding) as required by WADA (as a result of WADA’s audit of IADO on April 27th and 28th, 2023 at the IADO office), but also because in the near future PERSAMBI in collaboration with FIAS (Fédération Internationale de Sambo) will hold the 2025 Youth and Junior Sambo World Championship in Indonesia, or to be precise, it will be held on October 1st to 6th, 2025 in Bogor.

The initiative of the Chairman of PERSAMBI to directly coordinate with IADO was greatly appreciated, because it will be easier for PERSAMBI to find out all the procedures and requirements that must be met related to doping control considering that FIAS had instructed PERSAMBI to coordinate with its NADO, in this case IADO. On the other hand, IADO expressed its readiness to support the success of the world championship in terms of doping control while explaining that PERSAMBI must ensure from FIAS about the party that will be its Testing Authority taking into account that the event is an international event. When the meeting took place, apparently there was already information that FIAS had assigned ITA (International Testing Agency) as its Testing Authority, so one stage of preparation had been completed. However, IADO offered PERSAMBI that during the event PERSAMBI would be recommended to use the SCA (Sample Collection Authority) of DCOs and/or BCOs from IADO considering that the event would take place in Indonesia, and IADO has quite a lot of DCOs (Doping Control Officers) and BCOs (Blood Collection Officers) who are experienced in the international scope on the basis that they are routinely accredited by SEARADO (South East Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organization).

In addition to discussing the preparation of doping control ahead of the world sambo championship event, IADO also informed PERSAMBO that IADO is very open to increasing knowledge about anti-doping and also for example about TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemptions). These are very important to be conveyed by IADO, because it often happens that any elite athlete with international achievements is caught doping only because of the lack of knowledge about the dangers of doping and the function of TUE that he / she knows. The consequences are fatal, in addition to being sanctioned by IADO, he / she also loses their champion status and the bonuses he / she gets. In addition, it was also reminded that now anti-doping regulations have developed, so that elite athletes who have never consumed prohibited substances can be caught doping, just because they avoid taking samples or are difficult to contact 3 times a year. Fortunately, the Chairman of PERSAMBI is a former national athlete with an international reputation whose samples have been collected repeatedly, so he is very aware of the consequences of anti-doping regulations.
