The Nutrition Undergraduate Program of the Faculty of Sports Medicine, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), on November 3rd, 2025 held a Public Lecture on “Integrating Nutrition Management and Anti-Doping Policy in the Development of Professional Athlete Sports.” The lecture featured Natalia Desy Putriningtyas, S.Gz., M.Gizi., Dietitian from the Indonesia Anti-Doping Organization (IADO), as one of the speakers. Fifth-semester students and lecturers of the Athlete Nutrition Management course attended the event, aiming to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition management for athletes.

In that lecture, the speaker from IADO explained that nutritionists/dieticians play the role of athlete support personnel (ASP), influencing an athlete’s performance and achievement. A nutritionist/dietitian must understand the principles of clean sport, including the 11 Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs), the principle of absolute liability, how to use the Prohibited List, and the procedures for applying for and obtaining a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). Doping violations could have negative consequences for both athletes and the ASP. A nutritionist/dietitian’s understanding of anti-doping is a strategic solution to support athlete performance without breaking the rules.

The interactive discussion also highlighted the importance of early education to prevent doping practices among students and young athletes. Widya Astuti, S.Gz., M.Si., Head of the Nutrition Undergraduate Program at the Faculty of Sports and Nutrition (FPOK) UPI, stated that this activity was part of the study program’s commitment to supporting nutritional management, including meeting nutritional needs and complying with fair play principles and anti-doping regulations. “We hope that students will not only understand the theory but also develop an awareness of the important role of nutritionists in supporting athlete success,” she said. The activity concluded with a question-and-answer session and student reflection on the challenges of implementing anti-doping principles in the field. The enthusiasm of the participants demonstrated the high level of awareness among young people about ethical and health issues in the world of sports. This public lecture was expected to foster a generation of nutritionists who are intelligent, honest, and competent in the field of sports nutrition, ready to bring the spirit of healthy and integrated sports to Indonesia.
