Jakarta, 23 December 2025

During the 2024 National Sports Games (PON) in Aceh and North Sumatra Provinces, more than 12 athletes were suspected of violating anti-doping regulations. This high number of suspected doping cases is certainly not good news for the IADO’s efforts to encourage athletes and their support teams to comply with WADA’s anti-doping regulations. This is a highly likely scenario where the PON will have the highest rate of doping violations compared to previous PON events. As the Testing Authority, the IADO has been and continues to strive to fulfill its obligations through the IADO RM Committee.

IADO and a number of athletes affected or suspected of doping certainly have wished that the hearing and determination process could be completed as quickly as possible so that there is certainty whether or not will be violations and how long the sanctions will be imposed. The problem is, the IADO RM Committee cannot unilaterally resolve each case without considering the rules stipulated in the World Anti-Doping Code and the International Standard for Results Management regulated by WADA. Therefore, when on December 23rd, 2025, there was an athlete from a certain sport program who has been indicated to have been involved in doping but has filed an appeal since July 2025, then IADO feels it is in its interest to help facilitate coordination with BAKI and at the same time remind BAKI to immediately handle the case. For BAKI, this will be the first doping case it will handle since BAKI was agreed on October 19th, 2024, to be the sole sports arbitration body in Indonesia.
