In an effort to raise awareness regarding the safety of supplement use among athletes, a podcast recording was held on March 9th, 2026, whose theme was “Supplements and Doping Contamination: How to Protect Athletes?”. This activity aimed to educate athletes, coaches, sports health workers, and the general public about the risks of using unverified supplements and the potential for contamination with prohibited substances that can lead to doping violations. This activity was a collaboration between the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Sport Nutritionist Association (PP ISNA) and the IADO.

The use of supplements in sports is currently increasing, particularly to support athlete performance, recovery, and nutritional needs. However, not all supplement products on the market are guaranteed to be safe and of adequate quality. Several studies have shown that some supplements may be contaminated with substances on the prohibited list for sports, even though these substances are not listed on the product label. This situation poses a serious risk to athletes, as the principle of strict liability in anti-doping regulations states that athletes are responsible for any substances found in their bodies.

In this podcast, Kurnia Mar’atus Solichah, S.Gz., M.Gz., Dietitian from Presenter Edukasi (PRESI) IADO discussed various important aspects related to the phenomenon of counterfeit supplements and doping contamination, including how the contamination process can occur, its impact on athletes’ careers, and steps that can be taken to minimize these risks. The discussion also emphasized the importance of a food-first approach, which prioritizes meeting nutritional needs through food before considering the use of supplements. This podcast was planned to air in June 2026 on the PP ISNA YouTube channel.
