Jakarta, 6 September 2024
Mrs. Dian Anggaraini as the Chairwoman of the Indonesian Cheerleading Association (PEPSI) on September 6th , 2024 and the Chairman of IADO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding Anti-Doping Activities as a joint commitment to doping-free sports. The signing of the MoU took place at the IADO Office and was witnessed by the Acting Secretary General of IADO Mr. Indra Bayu. By this MoU, now the number of National Federations signing MoUs with IADO has increased to 66, because as of December 15th, 2023, there were 65 National Federations signed the MoU plus other 4 national sports organizations, namely KONI (National Sports Committee of Indonesia), KOI (National Olympic Committee), NPC (National Paralympic Committee) of Indonesia and the Indonesian Olympian Association, so a total of 69 entities at that time. At that time, IADO was required by WADA to be able to bind all national federations that were members of KOI in the form of an MoU, and finally obtained 65 organizations even though there were actually 67, because the other two were having administrative problems, so IADO was not advised to enter into an MoU with them, namely PERKEMI (Indonesian Kempo Association) and PTMSI (Indonesian Table Tennis Association). Meanwhile, PEPSI at that time had not yet signed an MoU with IADO, because it was not yet registered to be members of KONI nor KOI instead of KORMI (Indonesian Community Sports Committee).
However, for IADO, the sport of cheerleading or better known as Cheerleading is no stranger to IADO, because the International Olympic Committee has given recognition to the International Cheer Union (ICU) based on the 138th IOC Session in Tokyo prior to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. ICU and Cheerleaders are now fully eligible to petition for inclusion in the Olympic Games and various Olympic multi-sport events. This recognition will help ensure greater support and funding for the development of Cheerleading in many countries around the world. Therefore, when the 2023 ICU Asian Cheerleading Championship (ICU ACC) & Bali International Cheer Open (BICO) were held in Bali from October 21st to 22nd, 2023, IADO was pleased to be invited to collaborate for anti-doping control activities. That championship was an international level cheerleading sports competition, where the ICU ACC is an Asian level competition for the national teams of each country. That competition was supported by the International Cheer Union (ICU), as the international body that oversees the sport of cheerleading.
At that time, IADO participated as a Sample Collection Authority (SCA) and appointed 2 Doping Control Officers (DCO) and 4 Chaperones to serve in that prestigious Cheerleader sport event in accordance with the International Standard for Testing and Investigation (ISTI) and also the sample collection process related to rights and the athlete’s obligations. At that event, IADO DCOs and Chaperones were able to complete sample collection tasks in accordance with the Testing Order given by the International Cheer Union (ICU) as the Testing Authority (TA). IADO hoped that no athlete would be exposed to prohibited substances in competitions regulated in WADA’s International Standard Prohibited List. In the future, the Indonesian Cheerleaders Association (PEPSI) also hopes that cooperation with IADO can be carried out continuously and both during competitions and outside competitions so that the credibility of cheer sports athletes in Indonesia can be properly accounted for. For the information, on September 13th to 15th, 2024 the Asian Cheerleading Championship will take place in Bali, and IADO will again be invited to carry out doping checks. This is one of IADO’s strategies to more intensively promote anti-doping activities.
