Protecting athletes from the dangers of the usage of doping is also part of the responsibility of athlete support personnel, including coaches. The National Level Sambo Coach Training Pratama (One Star) in 2025, initiated by the regional office of PERSAMBI (Indonesia Sambo Federation) of Central Java, invited the Indonesia Anti-Doping Organization (IADO) as one of the speakers to provide insight and knowledge related to anti-doping on June 20th, 2025 at KONI (National Sports Committee of Indonesia) of Salatiga, Central Java.

In addition, Sambo is a sport or martial art that combines wrestling and judo, emphasizing control, leg locks, and ending fights with quick attacks. Furthermore, Sambo constitutes a relatively new sport in Indonesia, but its athletes have managed to contribute medals even at the international level. Therefore, understanding the anti-doping program by the World Anti-Doping Code is essential.
In this activity, the IADO Education Directorate assigned an Educational Presenter (PRESI) Mrs. Natalia Desy Putriningtyas, S.Gz., Dietitian., M.Gizi provided the material about anti-doping. The anti-doping education covered general anti-doping knowledge, including the 11 Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs), the principle of absolute liability, how to use the Prohibited List, the procedure for applying for and obtaining a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE), and – last but not least – the doping control process. The participants were so enthusiastic that many questions were asked.

One of the questions raised was about the usage of painkillers and weight loss supplements. The usage of both painkillers and weight loss supplements should be consulted to a sports doctor as a trainer, because he / she probably does not have comprehensive medical knowledge. Another thing that should always be considered is to keep up to date with the Prohibited List published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Coaches must understand that an athlete should still be sanctioned if proven to use banned substances, because in the anti-doping world, an athlete must comply with the principle of strict liability. Strict liability means that an athlete is fully responsible for what he has consumed, whether food, drinks, drugs, or even supplements.

At the end of the anti-doping session, the Chairman of KONI Salatiga, Central Java, Mr. Agus Purwanto, S.Pt, appreciated and hoped for a commitment from all parties to consistently implement clean sports so that the health of athletes and the achievements of Indonesian athletes are increasing.
