On the morning of November 30th, 2022, the Minister of Youth and Sports Prof. Dr. Zainudin Amali, SE, M.Si confirmed to officially open the National Anti-Doping Seminar at the Ballroom of the Sultan Hotel of Jakarta.  The seminar will be organized by IADO whose theme is “Synergy of Stakeholders to Create Sports Activities in Indonesia Which Have to be Free from Doping” which is deliberately held on the basis of the assessment and evaluation by IADO to the current anti-doping activities. The concerns have shown that there should be a new breakthrough which is among others on such gathering inviting the representative of WADA and CEO of SEARADO in order to have a better, qualified anti-doping activity.

IADO fully recognizes that anti-doping activities in Indonesia are still far from the advanced circumstances compared to other countries. Even though IADO has worked hard recently, IADO is not yet satisfied. It is quite unique, because there are already powerful regulations, namely:

  1. World Anti-Doping Code;
  2. Various international standard regulations, such as International Standard for Testing, International Standard for Education, International Standard for Result Management and others;
  3. UNESCO International Convention against Doping on Sport of 2005;
  4. Presidential Regulation of No. 101 of 2007 on Ratification of International Convention against Doping on Sport tahun 2007;
  5. Law of No. 22 of   2022 on Sports; and
  6. IADO Rule.

In fact, all regulations are complete, but why haven’t these supported the efforts? The conclusion is that there is not yet concrete and consistent common commitment while on the other side the Minister of Youth and Sports actually has intensively socialized and encouraged the implementation of the Presidential Regulation of No. 86 of 2021 on National Sports Design Grand.

There will be approximately 250 people who will be invited to the seminar by keeping the health protocol procedure. They will come from WADA, SEARADO, Ministry of Youth and Sports, other ministries and non-ministry institutions, as well as state – owned companies and private companies (mostly those which used to provide sponsorship for any national and or international sport events), KONI (National Sports Committee of Indonesia), KOI (National Olympic Committee of Indonesia), NPC (National Paralympic Committee) of Indonesia, national sport federations, heads of regional offices of youth and sports across the country, university communities, athletes, and officials.

One day of seminar will consist of presentations by WADA, SEARADO, IADO and NOC of Indonesia. It will also be indicated by signings of MoU between IADO and few sport institutions such as KONI (as part and implementation of the previous MoU signed on July 5th, 2022), PSSI, PERBASI, PASI, FPTI, WI and PABSI. Then it will be continued by providing an opportunity for a former rowing athlete who was once regarded to have prohibited substances, and consequently she obtained sanction from the NADO of Indonesia. Her message is to strongly endorse all athletes and athlete support personnel not to be easy to use substance which are not recognized.

On that special opportunity, IADO will express the high appreciation to the Minister of Youth and Sports Prof. Dr. Zainudin Amali, SE, M.Si, who has provided his full extra ordinary commitment to IADO which now exists as an independent organization, provided financially by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Such support is very important for the continuation of IADO   after being suspended last year and then to be lifted by WADA due to the successful efforts shown by the Task Force for Acceleration of Settlement of WADA Sanction. Fortunately, IADO is also lucky for the initiative of the Minister working hard with the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia to pass the new Law of Sports (revising the previous Law). The Law consists of among other articles on doping which are totally different from the previous one. It could not be imagined if there was no change of the Law, because Indonesia would have difficulty to have possible sanction liked in Thailand due to the content of the Law.

Furthermore, IADO will expect to WADA and SEARADO through Mr. Saravana Perumal (Manager of Asia Oceania Office of WADA) and Mr. Gobinathan Nair (Director General of SEARADO) to directly deliver the message in the front of the audiences everything which IADO still have lots to do due to IADO’s weaknesses in order that Indonesia will not be suspended by WADA anymore. There will be few world-wide sport events hosted in Indonesia. In addition, Indonesia is mandatory to take part on lots of international event in other countries. On such situation, it is compulsory for IADO to work hard and to show its strong commitment to comply with WADA to avoid any possible sanction.
