Beijing, 3 June 2026
A day after the 2026 Asia/Oceania Intergovernmental Ministerial Meeting, the WADA 2026 Regional Symposium for Asia and Oceania took place in the same building in Beijing on June 2nd and 3rd, 2026. The event was officially opened by WADA President Mr. Withold Banka, who was also accompanied by Mr. Tong Lixin, Vice Minister for Sports Administration of China. This was the first WADA symposium to be held regionally such it should also be organized for Europe, the Americas, and Africa, as it is usually held annually in Lausanne, Switzerland. Indonesia was also represented at the Beijing symposium by the Chairman of the IADO.
Several key points agreed upon in the symposium attended by the leaders of NADOs, Regional Anti-Doping Organizations, NOCs, NPCs and a number of WADA partners essentially focused on harmonizing the global anti-doping system, sharing intelligence-based investigative practices, and ensuring regional compliance with the upcoming World Anti-Doping Code 2027. The key outcomes and conclusions were: Code 2027 Readiness: the need to align national anti-doping operations, testing, and therapeutic exclusions (TUEs) with the updated World Anti-Doping Code 2027; Compulsory Education: The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) reaffirmed that pre-Olympic education is now a mandatory requirement for athlete participation in upcoming major events; Enhanced Intelligence & Investigations: Symposium delegates reviewed the success of the global anti-doping data network and intelligence-based supply chain disruptions to protect clean sport; and Athlete Representation: The session concluded with a framework for strengthening meaningful athlete representation in the governance of anti-doping structures globally.
