Indonesia Anti-Doping Organization (IADO) participated as one of the resource persons in the Academic Physiotherapy Conference (APC) 2026, held on June 1st, 2026, by the Department of Sports Physiotherapy, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The event provided a forum for academics, students, and physiotherapy practitioners to improve their knowledge and competency in sports physiotherapy, including their understanding of anti-doping regulations.
In the closing session of the conference, IADO presented a presentation entitled “Anti-Doping Regulations for Sport Physiotherapy.” That session provided an understanding of the important role of sports physiotherapists as part of the Athlete Support Personnel (ASP), who are responsible for supporting clean, fair, and doping-free sport. As athlete support personnel, sports physiotherapists play a role in providing professional services that align with the principles of clean sport and help reduce the risk of unintentional anti-doping violations.
Topics discussed included the role and responsibilities of the ASP in the anti-doping system, Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs), the Prohibited List, Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs), and the responsibility of sports physiotherapists in supporting athletes in making informed decisions regarding the use of medications, supplements, and therapeutic methods. Furthermore, participants were encouraged to understand how the Spirit of Sport values can be applied in daily professional practice.
That session was expected to enhance sports physiotherapists’ understanding of their strategic role in protecting athlete health, maintaining sporting integrity, and actively contributing to building a culture of clean sport in Indonesia. Collaboration between the IADO and higher education institutions is an important step in expanding anti-doping education to prospective and practicing athlete support staff.
