Anti-Doping Education Activity for Paralympic Athletes of the Regional Office of Yogyakarta

In order to improve achievement and development of disability sports for paralympic athletes of regional office of NPC (National Paralympic Committee) of Yogyakarta, IADO in cooperation with the related regional office carried out a Doping Socialization for Athletes and Coaches for PEPARNAS (National Paralympic Games) Regional Training Preparation on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023. That activity was held at Prime Plaza Hotel, Yogyakarta, attended by 129 athletes with their classification of physically disabled, blind, deaf, speech impaired, and mentally disabled.
On that occasion, the regional office of NPC invited IADO to provide anti-doping education material. IADO was represented by the Director of Education, Natashya Marcellina Ardiany, S.Pd, S.M, MA in which athletes were also asked to fill out a pre-test, and post-test. It aimed to find out how the difference in knowledge before and after listening to anti-doping education was.
After the pre-test and post-test, it was found that participants got better scores on the post-test instead the pre-test, so it could be concluded that the educational material provided by IADO increased knowledge and information for the participants.
Participants attending were also active in asking questions about brands that contain prohibited substances. It was explained that IADO and WADA strongly encourage athletes and ASP to directly consult with their doctors having anti-doping knowledge to find out whether the used – drugs and supplements are safe and do not contain substances listed in the book “The Prohibited List”. If indeed the drugs used for medication contain prohibited substances, any related athletes assisted by his / her doctors can apply for TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption).
